Council Resolution on lifelong guidance (2008)
In 2008, the EU’s education ministers adopted a Council Resolution on lifelong guidance. Under the heading Council resolution on better integrating lifelong guidance into lifelong learning strategies, the Council proposed that member states

strengthen the role of guidance within the framework of national education policy, in line with the Lisbon Strategy
-
examine policy and principles for guidance at the national level
-
make use of the opportunities available within the Lifelong Learning Programme and the European Structural Funds in this work
The Council also recommended that member states, depending on national circumstances,

encourage all citizens to develop career management skills from a lifelong learning perspective
-
ensure that all citizens have access to guidance
-
develop quality assurance in guidance
-
encourage cooperation between national, regional, and local stakeholders in the field of guidance
