Discover the Career Guidance Quality Lab

Author: Marianne Almbakk, Senior Advisor, Norwegian Directorate for Higher Education and Skills.
A new digital workspace from Norway is helping career guidance practitioners strengthen the quality in their everyday practice as career practitioners. Euroguidance Norway has now made it possible to adapt and translate The Career Guidance Quality Lab into an international version. The Quality Lab was launched at the Euroguidance conference in Riga in December 2025 and was very well received amongst career guidance professionals from European countries: https://kik.hkdir.no/en
Here’s why you should explore it.
A Digital Workspace Built for Better Guidance
The Career Guidance Quality Lab is a digital learning environment developed by the Norwegian Directorate for Higher Education and Skills to support career guidance professionals in improving their practice. It is grounded in Norway’s National Quality Framework for Career Guidance, providing tools, reflection exercises and learning resources designed to help practitioners work systematically with quality—without requiring formal qualifications. Through the Euroguidance network, the Lab is now being shared and tested by practitioners beyond Norway, supporting quality development across countries and systems.
The Guidance Room: Real Cases, Real Learning
One highlight within the Lab is The Guidance Room—a professional learning resource built around eight constructed cases, each introduced through short films followed by selected moments from real guidance scenarios. These cases help practitioners reflect on professional judgement, ethical considerations, and competence areas such as career theories, methods and career learning.
All films include English subtitles, and reflection questions are adapted for an international audience. The resource includes both a School Edition and an Adult Edition, making it relevant for practitioners across sectors, and allowing practitioners across Europe to relate the content to their own work.
Explore the real-life inspired cases that strengthen your professional reflection and elevate your guidance practice.
For Schools and Adult Guidance
The Guidance Room gives practitioners an engaging way to sharpen professional judgement, deepen ethical awareness and reflect on the complexities of real-life guidance. It is a practical, accessible and globally relevant tool for developing high-quality career guidance, aligned with Euroguidance’s broader mission of promoting quality, transparency and competence development in lifelong guidance.
Practical Tools You Can Use Today
The Lab also offers several tools tailored for professional development.
- My Competence: Evaluate your career guidance competence and plan your own professional development. This tool has been fully translated into English.
- Ethical Reflection: Work through ethical dilemmas together with colleagues using guided reflection tasks.
- Your Career Learning: Gain inspiration and methods for promoting career learning in your own guidance practice.
Although some tools are still in Norwegian, they can be explored using translation functions, and an international test team – supported through Euroguidance cooperation – is helping further develop the English version.
