Green Career Education and Its Support in Schools
The aim of the international Erasmus+ project Green Career’s Education is to support career counsellors and teachers at primary and secondary schools in the systematic integration of sustainable development topics into career guidance and students’ education. The project is based on the vision that reducing the impact of climate change can no longer rely solely on conscious behaviour at the individual level; sustainability must also be taken into account in the professional and work-related context. Career guidance and career education can serve as powerful tools for change, provided that school counsellors and teachers are equipped with practical knowledge and methods to apply these principles in everyday practice.
The project focuses on linking education with up-to-date scientific knowledge while also fostering networking among communities of educators with an interest in sustainable career education. This connection enables more effective sharing of experiences and educational inspiration across schools. At the same time, the project links European-level experience with practical outputs at the national level, particularly in countries where career education is not yet well established, despite strong demand from educators. The project also introduces themes of sustainability and wellbeing into the field of career guidance, with a strong emphasis on supporting educators and drawing on practice-proven approaches.
Within the project, tools are being developed for use by professionals across the European Union, including a five-day training course for teachers and career counsellors, as well as supporting educational materials (a methodological guide for sustainable career education, worksheets for classroom use, and a database of information resources).
The project outputs will be available in five languages, including Slovak, and will cover five thematic areas: (1) The Concept of Sustainable Career Education, (2) The Future, (3) Green Competences, (4) Wellbeing and Sustainability and (5) Application in Teaching.
