The new Erasmus+ programme provides opportunities for study periods abroad, traineeships, apprenticeships, and staff exchanges in all fields of education, training, youth and sport. It is open to school pupils, higher education and vocational education and training students, adult learners, youth exchanges, youth workers and sport coaches.

- Participation: improving active involvement in the program and in society
- Sustainability: making the funding programs sustainable and promote sustainable action
- Digitalization: promoting the use of digital tools and the development of digital skills
The programme features various new opportunities, such as:
Key action 1: Accreditations vs. short-term projects in adult education

- Short-term projects for the mobility of learners and staff offer applicant organizations the possibility to organize different mobility activities over a period of six to twelve months with a maximum of 30 participants.
- From 2021 the programme also offers adult learners to go on mobility.
Key Action 2: Strategic Partnerships
- Small-scale Partnerships are a new opportunity with lower grant amounts for organizations, shorter durations, and simpler administrative requirements.
