2023 OECD PIAAC Survey of Adult Skills results are out

The second international Survey of Adult Skills (PIAAC) published this week, dec 2024, by the OECD and co-funded by the European Commission finds that around one in five adults are considered low performers in literacy and numeracy skills on average across countries.

Following a first edition in 2013, the comprehensive survey assessed the literacy, numeracy and problem-solving skills of adults aged 16-65 in 20 Member States – Austria, Belgium (Flanders), Croatia, Czechia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Spain and Sweden –, as well as in Canada, Chile, UK (England), Israel, Japan, Korea, New Zealand, Norway, Singapore and the US. The findings aim to prove how developing and using skills can improve employment prospects and quality of life as well as boost economic growth.

The best-performing EU countries, all skills domains concerned, were Finland, the Netherlands and Sweden. How did your country perform?
