Information and Guidance at Study Information Days
The Study Information Days (SID) are guidance fairs organised by the Flemish Ministry of Education and Training. During these events, pupils in their final year of secondary education, including teachers and parents can find information and advice on the many study and professional pathways following secondary school. In collaboration with the pupil guidance centers and Euroguidance Flanders, information and guidance are provided on opportunities within and outside of the Flanders region.
Broad reach
In each of the five Flemish provinces, SID-In fairs are organised during three days. In each province, two days are open to schools and one day to the public. The entrance is free, but registration in advance is required. This means that a large number of pupils across Flanders are reached with information and support. To accommodate the increasing number of visitors, opening hours of the SID-In fairs in 2026 were extended. During the COVID-period, the SID-In fairs were organised online to continue to reach a high number of pupils, guidance professionals and parents.
Tailored information and advice
Colleges, universities and recognised training providers participate in the guidance fairs, as well as representatives from the Flemish Ministry of Education and Training and work-related entities such as the public employment service. Exhibitors offer tailored information, often supported by relevant information brochures. Many higher education providers also involve current students to share their experiences. Pupils who visit the fairs can also consult ‘role model’ students for information, tips and inspiration. By involving role models, the organisers aim to inform and motivate pupils who face barriers in pursuing higher education. One example of a barrier faced is financial difficulties.
Not a stand-alone initiative
The SID-In fairs are part of a broader set of initiatives by the Flemish Ministry of Education and Training to support pupils in the choices they will make following secondary education. The brochure ‘Wat na het secundair onderwijs?’ (‘What after secondary school?’) is an example. This publication lays out the different pathways pupils can take following secondary school. It contains information on higher education in Flanders aswell as education outside of higher education in Flanders and on the transition to the labor market. The brochure is widely used in class or at home before or after a visit to one of the SID-In fairs.
