Peer to peer tutoring program
In collaboration with the faculties of UVT, the Student Counseling and Support Service (SCSS-UVT) has been organizing the Peer to Peer Tutoring (P2PT - Programul student pentru student) program annually since 2016. This program is an essential part of the academic support offered to students, aiming to provide educational assistance and career development services.
Within the framework of Peer to peer tutoring, senior students provide support to first-year students, in order to facilitate their integration into the educational environment. Beforehand, students who wish to become student tutors must undergo a tutoring training, facilitated by counselors and psychologists from SCSS-UVT. Students can opt for the following positions within the program:
- Student tutor – a student who, within the program, on a voluntary basis, supports a group of 20-30 students in the first year of the undergraduate university studies cycle. The student tutor has the mission of helping his colleagues develop the personal and learning skills necessary to achieve their academic goals.
- Student tutor responsible for international students – a student who knows an international language (preferably English or French) at a good level and who, within the program, on a voluntary basis, supports international students in the first year of the undergraduate university studies cycle enrolled at UVT.
- Student tutor coordinator – student who has had good results in a previous tutoring program or in other volunteer activities, has good academic results, possesses organizational/management skills, who coordinates and monitors the activity of the student tutors under his/her responsibility.
In the first semester, student tutors carry out various activities aimed at supporting the adaptation and integration process of first-year freshmen. In order to maintain constant communication with the tutored students, the student tutors created an online group for interaction, using a mutually agreed social media platform. Both individual and group peer-tutoring sessions are also organized to facilitate learning. In addition to the educational and administrative support provided, the student tutors participated in meetings with the coordinating student tutors where they presented the activities carried out and the difficulties encountered.
In the second semester, the activities were rather directed towards international students, but the tutors continued to provide support to other students, when requested.
In the 2024-2025 academic year, 113 student tutors, 10 students responsible for international students and 9 coordinating student tutors enrolled in the Peer to peer tutoring program. The program evaluation took place in the second semester, and 58 student tutors completed the program.
