Professional Counseling and Career Guidance Discipline

The Professional Counseling and Career Guidance (PCG) course (Disciplina Consiliere Profesională și Orientare în Carieră (CPOC), implemented by SCSS-UVT at the university level, is a mandatory complementary course for first-year students in each undergraduate degree program. It was quantified with one transferable study credit, in addition to the 30 in the semester, and with 1 seminar hour/week.

This course is supported by the 6 career counselors and the 2 psychologists within SCSS-UVT, with the support of UVT teaching staff trained within the postgraduate training and continuous professional development program "Counseling for guidance and career guidance". The activity was generally carried out in a physical format in UVT premises, but also in an online format for certain undergraduate degree programs, and consisted of 7 meetings of 1.5 hours each, scheduled in the first semester, once every two weeks.

The CPOC discipline aims to provide students, from the first year, with essential knowledge about career development, exploring career options, decision-making and developing a career plan. Also, the seminars do not only focus on professional aspects, but also address individual factors that can influence career decision-making. Skills, professional interests, personal and professional values, motivation and resilience in the educational context are just a few examples in this regard.

In addition, students have the opportunity, during this discipline, to meet with practitioners in their field of interest. UVT advisors and teaching staff facilitate these meetings with guests, in order to give students the opportunity to get to know even better the opportunities they have after completing their studies.
