Since there is no formal educational programme in career guidance in Slovenia, Employment Service of Slovenia provided (in 2014/2015, 2017/2018 and 2019/2020) 3 modular trainings for career counsellors in lifelong careerguidance from employment and education sectors in order to provide career counsellors the needed knowledge on useful working methods and their theoretical background as well as to encourage networking among career counsellors from different fields.

The multidisciplinary 160-hour training included group work, e-learning and independent work. It was divided into 4 modules (career orientation, guidance, lifelong guidance career tools and working with group in career orientation) for 4 different fields of practice (employment counsellors, education counsellors, HR and NGO). The training was provided in the frame of Service Development of Lifelong Career Guidance project.

We have covered the entire spectrum of knowledge and skills that career counselors need in their work. The programme included 156 participants from a large number of institutions that offer career counselling (primary schools, secondary schools, career centres, Employment Service of Slovenia, HR companies, etc.).

Participation in the training contributed to increased professionalism and self-confidence, as well as better efficiency and quality at work. Moreover, it also contributed to greater sensitivity to clients' needs and better business performance. It also encouraged them to introduce changes in their approaches and practices. At the same time, career counsellors connected professionally with each other, shared experiences, examples of good practices, recommendations and mutual assistance.
