Study visits online
Career guidance needs to have a greater presence in the lower grades of school, giving the students study motivation and better decision-making skills for upper secondary school choices. In Osby municipality teachers have expressed frustration with traditional study visits saying they take too much time and offer limited workplace variety. This method has been developed with the help of the students' participation adding suggestions for professions and more.
The guidance counselor visits various workplaces, a Teams link is sent to the class and in real time the students can follow and participate, regardless of their geographical location. The visits are later edited into short movies posted on Osby’s YouTube channel, to be used as part of the training material for workplaces. The teachers can naturally connect the "study visits" to the curriculum.
The aim is to create a good collaboration between the schools, the business community, possibly leading to parental involvement, allowing them to easily show their workplace, using their mobile phone. By using a smartphone and an editing program, the guidance counselor creates an easy-to-use working methodology for teachers and students helping them understand that there is a vast range of professions to choose from in the future.
