This practice is based on the collaboration between the Student Counselling Centre and the International Office at the University of Iceland to support incoming exchange students during their transition to studying and living in a new country. Through joint orientation sessions, students receive guidance on academic planning, study skills, wellbeing, social integration, and adapting to Icelandic culture and conditions.

The practice takes a holistic approach to student mobility by recognising that a successful exchange experience depends not only on academic achievement but also on personal wellbeing, social connections, and career learning. Students are encouraged to reflect on the transferable skills they develop through international mobility, such as adaptability, resilience, intercultural communication, independence, and problem-solving.
